JAMB change of course or institution: how it works and when to do it

If your UTME score will not reach your first choice, JAMB lets you change your course or institution at an accredited CBT centre during the correction window. Check these four things first.

Many candidates change their course or institution after the UTME results, when they can see their score. Done well, it can be the difference between admission this year and waiting another year.

When you can do it

JAMB opens a change of course and institution window for each UTME cycle, usually after results are released. For the 2026 UTME it opened in May 2026. Check JAMB's notices for the current window before you go.

How it is done

For 2026, JAMB directed that changes be made at accredited CBT centres. Take your registration details, tell the centre what you want to change, pay the JAMB fee, and check your new choices on the printout before you leave.

Check these four things first

1. The new institution actually offers your course. 2. Your four UTME subjects match the new course's subject combination. 3. Your UTME score meets the new institution's own minimum, not just the national minimum. 4. The school's screening for the year is still open, or has not happened yet.

Good reasons to change

  • Your score is well below your first choice's usual course cut-off.
  • A related, less competitive course at the same school uses the same subjects (for example, moving within the sciences).
  • Another school with your course has a lower published threshold and screening you can still attend.

Avoid

  • Changing to a course your subjects do not support.
  • Paying anyone who promises to 'secure' admission. Only the university and JAMB give admission.
