PhysicsQuantity of heatJAMB
A 200 g piece of metal at 100 °C is dropped into 100 g of water at 20 °C. The final temperature is 30 °C. Find the specific heat capacity of the metal, ignoring heat losses. (c of water = 4200 J/(kg K))
Show answer
Answer: D. 300 J/(kg K)
Heat lost = heat gained: 0.2 × c × 70 = 0.1 × 4200 × 10, so 14c = 4200 and c = 300.
