The solubility of potassium trioxonitrate(V) is 80 g per 100 g of water at 50 °C and 40 g per 100 g at 20 °C. What mass crystallises when a saturated solution containing 200 g of water is cooled from 50 °C to 20 °C?

Show answer

Answer: A. 80 g

200 g of water holds 160 g at 50 °C and 80 g at 20 °C; 160 − 80 = 80 g crystallises.
